National art competition for mindful youth, grades K-12.
Horses running free reminds me of being true to who we are, and when I am true to who I am, it helps others feel free to be true to who they are. It starts with me!
Broken Angels Wings Can Be Fixed
People bully the angel and a normal girl can help the angel feel better.
I'm cleaning up litter with my friends. If I did it, I wouldn't have to wait for another person to start before me.
To have fun it starts with you so I asked if my brothers and sister would let me take pictures of them doing what they think is fun.
The road through a successful life is traveled by taking the first step- whatever that step may be. This ballerina is putting on her dancing shoes, ready to start out on her journey and find new worlds. For this dancer, the journey “Starts With Me”.
This painting is meant to show that one person can make a huge difference, even if it seems small at first.
A Vision of Now-Determination of Change
When I look at this eye I can see that it has been through a lot. It has seen so many things, both good and bad, but it is also very worn out. Sometimes what we "see" today pains us and can make our eyes hurt. That pain and past experiences creates the determination for change.
It started with me sharing what I like, patterns, that turned into a christmas flower (that I like too), that then turned into a beautiful blooming flower. If I share what makes me happy, it can help others feel happy too.
Friendship is Magical
Friendship is important to me because when someone feels like you like them, it makes them happy. I know that friendship starts with me!
Fun Starts with Me
I like having fun and seeing other people have fun. I can be the one to start the fun.
I love fashion, and I love to design things. I also think us girls are awesome!
I Love fun. I love art because you can start it and it is FUN! That is why I loved doing this.
I like making things out of nature. Hearts symbolize love and kindness which starts with me.
Half Robot, Half Boy
I picked this picture because I really enjoyed painting it at the same time my family was painting. I worked really hard on it. It’s half robot, half boy. The head that is rectangle is robot. The circle with glasses is boy. The boy and robot parts go back and forth (alternate) in each rectangle. How does it start with me? Because it’s half robot and half boy!
I Love My Home
Me=I. I help take care of my home by sharing with my brothers and sisters, riding my bicycle around the yard, helping to mow the lawn, clean the house (especially my room). For the mountains around my home, I help pick up trash that people have left.
In the Rainbow's Sunlight
This rainbow reminds me of Heavenly Father and Jesus because He gave us rainbows and sunlight and the whole entire world! I just love rainbows because they are pretty and they make me think of happy things, like leprechauns and Santa Claus and fish and seahorses. I did try to catch the happiness I feel in this painting. I just love to paint rainbow sunlight!
I Stand Alone
I like this picture because the daffodil is unique. It is standing by itself even when there’s a lot of red tulips surrounding it. It’s not looking back at the tulips. It’s looking forward almost like it is praying to God. When I look at the picture, I think that I’m the daffodil and how sometimes I have to stand alone.
It Starts With Me
I like bright colors and circles.
Love of Music
To make beautiful music I must practice. The more I practice, the more it blooms. The more it blooms, the more I can bless others with it. It starts with me.
I love magic. Like it says in the poem, you just have to stop and think because magic is almost everywhere. You just have to use your imagination. Kids think about it more than grownups, but grownups can get to it if they just stop and look.
The Magic Show
Kindness spreads from one person to the next. If I want the world to be a better place, I should be kind. It starts with me.
Magic Paint Brush
I drew myself drawing, with my drawings coming to life out of my paper. Each of my drawings is a different style of art that I am learning to use (including finger paint, water color pencil, crayon, pen and marker, and others). This relates to the theme "It starts with me" because it shows how these ideas are coming to life from me. Each of them came from my imagination except for my self portrait and the mouse (which I looked at a photographs for).
I have drawn my “peas” for a very long time, and I thought the pun “Pea-ple” was cool. I loved how I could draw words with the “peas.” The Peas are supposed to be climbing a tree. Some of them are sitting on the branches and looking at you like someone is taking a picture of them on a vacation. And I’m the photographer taking a picture of all of them so this picture “Starts with Me.”
We all have to take care of the earth so it stays beautiful. It starts with me.
This tulip sprout was not the first one to push through the ground. And yet, it’s trying its best to reach the sun anyway. Even though the other tulips are taller, if it tries hard enough, eventually it will still have beautiful flowers. I think this is inspiring because you don’t have to be the leader to start something. Often we say that it has to begin with you. Really just starting at all is what’s important—first or last. This little flower wasn’t first. But it did its best to get started, even if it was late.
A Penguin's Life
We learn how to be from our parents, but someday it will be up to us to teach others. It starts with me.
I love birds and I want to protect nature because protecting nature would be protecting birds.
I love the way the flower looks in this picture and the contrasting colors. I call it “Reaching Upward” because the flower has to reach up toward the light or else it will shrivel and die. I think that has to do a lot with me, too. Because I have to reach up to heaven, and I can’t give up because then I won’t be as happy.
Saving Just One Dog
When I saw the theme of this art competition I thought of adopting an animal. My work of art captures how saving an animal all starts with me, or anybody who would like to adopt.
Sharing a Flower
I'm sharing a flower with a friend. The different skin color means different kinds of people can be friends. It just starts with sharing kindness. I put a pretty lace on top of the flower that means we can love everyone. It starts with me!
Snowball, My Bunny
Because of my determination, willingness to prepare and love of animals, we were able to get Snowball. To have a family pet started with me.
Spaceship to My House
You have to have imagination in order to make a spaceship that can go anywhere. The spaceship starts with me because I made it. My spaceship can go to any place or any time, both in the future or in the past or now.
Spiral of Decisions
By using a spiral theme, this art shows how one person's actions influence the lives of others, showing the good influence that result from unselfish actions.
In this poem, the crow has to overcome different roadblocks to reach his goal. If you start something, that’s great. But the first time it gets hard, if you just give up there really wasn’t any point in starting at all. We need to press on no matter what happens so that we can get to the reward at the end.
The Princess Saves the Journal
This picture illustrates books that I’m writing. In the middle with the yellow light, there’s a girl. Next, she goes with the fairies. They help her get out of her troubles. Next you’ll see her on the Pegasus. That’s her horse, Windy. They are flying to Mermaid Land to get something. Then she gets it back, and she becomes a true warrior.
The Things I Like
The things I like start with me.
I chose to draw Thomas Edison, because light bulbs, light in our houses, started out with one person. Without him, we would still be using candles. Look at the things that we use because of the invention of light bulbs. I am one person, so I can make something and it can become big and wonderful.
Before the greatest inventions, before the greatest masterpieces, there had to be ideas. Before we can start something, we have to make a choice. We have to think about what we want to do and decide to do it.
The person starts to serve which creates a chain reaction which helps the community because everyone starts to serve quietly by learning from her example.
A winged warrior that I made up with my imagination is in this picture. The girl is in the tree. She is ready to turn into a bird. This is what all winged warriors can do. They can turn into birds.
